From War to Wine: The Pisoni Family’s unbreakable legacy and biodynamic vision
In the breathtaking Valle dei Laghi, where the Brenta Dolomites meet the gentle breezes of Lake Garda, a family’s legacy of resilience and craftsmanship has thrived for over 170 years. Welcome to Cantina Pisoni, where history isn’t just remembered - it’s bottled.
A legacy rooted in tradition
Founded in 1852, Cantina Pisoni has always been more than a winery - it’s a story of dedication passed down through generations.
Historical records from the Council of Trent (1545–1563) mention Carlo Antonio Pisoni as a supplier of wines to Cardinal Cristoforo Madruzzo. Today, Marco and Stefano Pisoni honor this legacy, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation.
Nestled in the heart of Trentino’s Valle dei Laghi, the winery thrives in a unique microclimate shaped by the Ora del Garda wind, producing elegant, terroir-driven wines.
Pioneers in biodynamic and organic viticulture, the Pisonis champion sustainability, ensuring their land flourishes for generations to come.
Signature wines that tell a story
Vino Santo Trentino – A rare, slow-aged dessert wine made from Nosiola grapes dried for six months. Aged for ten years, it carries the prestigious Slow Food Presidium mark.
Reboro Wine – A bold red, crafted from raisined Rebo grapes, introduced in 2011. Deep, complex, and perfect for grilled meats.
Surviving WWII: A testament to resilience
As the WWII swept through Europe, the Pisoni family remained rooted in their land. Unlike World War I, where family members were sent to the front, Oreste and Giulio Pisoni were too old to be drafted, and their children too young. With vineyards to protect and a distillery to sustain, they faced wartime scarcity with ingenuity.
When bombings threatened their home, they carved a shelter into the rock near their estate, creating a refuge that would later become their prized wine cellar, now used for aging Trentodoc sparkling wines.
They adapted, introducing new grape varieties - Cabernet, Merlot, and Chardonnay (then known as “yellow Burgundy”) - and pivoting from bulk wine sales to bottling, a decision that shaped their future.
Through community collaboration with neighboring farmers, they endured hardship together, emerging from WWII not just intact, but stronger and more determined than ever.
Preserving Trentino’s wine heritage
More than just winemakers, Cantina Pisoni safeguards Trentino’s rich winemaking traditions.
From pioneering biodynamic farming to transforming wartime adversity into opportunity, their story is one of passion, perseverance, and progress.
Today, visitors can experience this history firsthand through guided tours and tastings in the family's historic cellar. Whether walking through sun-drenched vineyards or sipping a glass of Vino Santo in their WWII-era wine cellar, every moment at Cantina Pisoni connects guests to a legacy that transcends time.
