Tuscany
Home of Italy's Most Celebrated Red Wines
From the rolling hills of Chianti to the coastal vineyards of Bolgheri, Tuscany has shaped the global reputation of Italian wine for generations.
Tuscany is one of those places that stays with you long after you've left.
The landscape is instantly recognisable. The rolling vineyards, olive groves, medieval villages and roads lined with cypress trees but what makes Tuscany truly special is the people who have cared for this land for generations.
While regions like Chianti, Montalcino and Montepulciano have become famous around the world, we found ourselves drawn to Bolgheri, where a new generation of winemakers has quietly redefined what Tuscan wine can be.
At Porcalorca, we love Tuscany because it perfectly balances respect for tradition with the courage to challenge it. It is a region where history is honoured, but never stands still.

A Journey Through Tuscany
Chianti - The Heart of Tuscany
Few wine regions are as closely associated with Italy as Chianti. Vineyards, olive groves and historic villages have shaped this landscape for centuries, producing wines built around the region's signature grape, Sangiovese.
Montalcino - Patience Rewarded
South of Siena lies Montalcino, home to Brunello, one of Italy's most prestigious wines. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese, Brunello is celebrated for its elegance, structure and extraordinary ageing potential.
Bolgheri - Tuscany's Coastal Pioneer
Unlike the historic inland regions, Bolgheri sits just a few kilometres from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Here, sea breezes, mineral-rich soils and an open-minded approach to winemaking have created one of Italy's most exciting appellations.
Rather than following tradition, Bolgheri became famous for redefining it - producing world-class wines from varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Bolgheri - Where Tradition Meets Innovation
Bolgheri has become one of Italy's most respected wine regions, not because it followed the rules, but because it challenged them.
During the 20th century, visionary winemakers began planting Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot along Tuscany's coast. The combination of maritime breezes, gravelly soils and a unique microclimate produced wines unlike anything Italy had seen before.
Today, Bolgheri is recognised around the world for wines that combine Italian character with international elegance - powerful, refined and capable of ageing for decades.

Why We Love Bolgheri
Bolgheri represents a different side of Tuscany.
It respects tradition while embracing innovation, proving that great wines are created by people willing to think differently without losing sight of where they come from.
For us, Bolgheri is not only one of Italy's great wine regions - it is home to producers whose passion, precision and commitment to quality perfectly reflect the values we look for at Porcalorca.
The People Behind the Wines
Federico Aldrovandi
Federico followed a dream that began in the hills south of Bologna and led him to one of the smallest vineyards in the Bolgheri DOC. Today, every bottle reflects his belief that exceptional wine comes from patience, precision and an uncompromising respect for the vineyard.

TUSCANY
Introducing the new Aldrovandi Bolgheri Superiore 2019, the latest vintage in our collection, crafted with the same dedication and precision as its predecessor, the 2018. Together, 2018 and 2019, due to the exceptional seasoning in the field, are the most requested vintages in Bolgheri. Produced from a single hectare of bush-trained vines in the Lippini area above Via Bolgherese, this exceptional wine continues the Aldrovandi tradition of excellence. With a limited production of just 3,000 bottles, this 2019 vintage reflects the unparalleled care and craftsmanship of Federico Aldrovandi, making it a true collector’s piece.
Grape variety
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot.
Vineyards of origin
The vineyards are located in a hilly area above Via Bolgherese, in the Lippini area, with soils that reflect the unique characteristics of the Bolgheri terroir.
Soil: Sandy-clay, alkaline, deep soil with a well-defined stony structure, often revealing fossil fragments such as small shells on the surface, reflecting the geological history of the region.
Training system: Bush-trained vines.
Season in the field: harvest is manual, only in exceptional vintage. Bush-trained vines are tended with great care to ensure the highest quality of grapes. Only the finest vintages are selected to produce this Bolgheri Superiore. In 2019 winter and spring temperatures were cooler than usual, causing a delayed start to the vegetative cycle. However, from late May onwards, the cycle accelerated as temperatures rose rapidly. The summer climate was sunny and stable, lasting until the end of the harvest, which proved excellent in every respect.
Average yield: 50 q/ha.
Vinification
The vinification of Aldrovandi Bolgheri Superiore is meticulously managed to fully express the potential of the grapes. The wine matures in carefully selected wooden barrels, imparting complexity and structure without overpowering its balance. A well-integrated wood influence adds a smoky note that enriches the finish.
Aging: a minimum aging period of 24 months, 12 of which are spent in French oak barriques.
Tasting notes
The wine displays an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it is complex and refined, revealing pronounced aromas of black fruits and forest fruits, complemented by distinct balsamic notes and hints of Mediterranean scrub. The well-integrated wood imparts an elegant smoky note on the finish. On the palate, it is austere and fresh, showing perfect balance, with a well-structured tannic backbone and pleasing acidity. The finish is long and persistent, with returning savoury and mineral nuances.
Pairings
Ideal with game, particularly wild boar and braised red meats, and excellent when paired with hard-aged cheeses. Also perfect as a meditation wine.
Alcohol content and serving temperature
Alcohol content: 13,5% Vol.
Serving temperature: 16 - 18°C.
