Rebo
Trentino's Modern Masterpiece
Bold. Elegant. Unexpected.
Rebo is one of Italy's youngest grape varieties, yet it feels perfectly at home among the country's oldest wine traditions. Born in Trentino from a cross between Merlot and Teroldego, Rebo combines the elegance of one parent with the vibrant character of the other to create a wine that is entirely its own.
Grown between the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Garda, Rebo reflects a unique alpine terroir and the dedication of the families who continue to champion this remarkable grape.
Forget Everything You Think You Know About Modern Grapes
When people hear that a grape was created in the twentieth century, they often assume it lacks history.
Rebo tells a different story.
Created specifically for Trentino's unique climate, it wasn't designed to replace tradition but to become part of it. Today, only a small number of passionate winemakers continue to cultivate Rebo, proving that innovation and heritage can flourish side by side.
Sometimes the newest stories become tomorrow's traditions.
What is Rebo?
Rebo is a red grape variety developed in Trentino by crossing Merlot and Teroldego. Named after the Italian researcher Rebo Rigotti, the variety was created to combine the elegance and structure of Merlot with the freshness, colour and character of Teroldego.
Although still produced in limited quantities, Rebo has become one of Trentino's most distinctive wines, offering depth, balance and remarkable ageing potential.
What Makes Rebo So Special?
Born in Trentino
Unlike many international grape varieties, Rebo was created specifically for Trentino's vineyards, where the alpine climate allows it to reach exceptional balance and complexity.
Two legendary grapes. One unique identity.
Merlot contributes elegance and roundness.
Teroldego brings freshness, colour and vibrant fruit.
Together they create something entirely new—without losing the character of the land where it was born.
Crafted with patience
At Pisoni, the grapes are hand-harvested before being dried on traditional arèle racks, concentrating flavour while preserving freshness. The wine is then aged for three years in French oak barriques and a further year in bottle, resulting in exceptional depth and refinement.
A Modern Story Rooted in Tradition
Rebo was first developed during the 1940s by Italian agronomist Rebo Rigotti at the San Michele all'Adige research institute.
While the grape itself is relatively young, today's finest Rebo wines are deeply rooted in Trentino's centuries-old winemaking culture. Families like Pisoni combine modern viticulture with traditional techniques, proving that innovation is strongest when built on generations of knowledge.

VIGNETI DELLE DOLOMITI IGT - TRENTINO
Rooted in centuries-old tradition; a collective project born from the friendship of the winemakers of the Valle dei Laghi; a red wine of exceptional quality that embodies the essence of this territory. It originates from Rebo, an indigenous variety that combines the best qualities of its parents, Merlot and Teroldego. A precious gem we are proud of.
Grape variety
100% Rebo.
Vineyards of origin
Hilly vineyards of Colle San Siro, nestled in the paradise of the Valle dei Laghi, between the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Garda.
Soil: The steady winds between the Alps and Lake Garda, combined with the calcareous soil, provide the perfect setting for the Rebo grape variety, an indigenous vine that combines the best qualities of its parents, Merlot and Teroldego, to fully express its organoleptic profile.
Training system: Guyot-trained espalier.
Season in the field: The excellent climatic conditions ensured optimal phenological ripening, preserving aromatic precursors in the best possible way. This balance is beautifully reflected in the harmony between acidity and alcohol. The grapes, hand-harvested in crates, were picked at the end of September and the beginning of October and left to dry until late November on the “arele,” the traditional racks also used for producing the renowned Vino Santo Trentino DOC.
Average yield: 50 q/ha.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in small stainless-steel vats, lasting approximately 20 days. Malolactic fermentation is also entirely carried out in stainless steel.
Aging: 36 months in French oak barriques, followed by 12 months in the bottle.
Organoleptic aspects
Deep ruby red with garnet highlights. Intense, complex, and refined aroma, featuring notes of ripe red fruits, jam, and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, with an exceptionally long finish.
Pairings
Red meats and game, but not just slow-cooked dishes: thanks to its structure and fruit freshness, it is the ideal wine for grilled meats and gourmet barbecues.
Alcohol content and serving temperature
