Le Corne - Forte Terra Rosso 2018
VALCALEPIO DOC - LOMBARDIA
Valcalepio, with its rolling hills stretching between Lake Iseo and Lake Como, is an ancient land where viticulture dates back to Roman times. Here, fertile soils and a mild climate nurture Valcalepio Rosso, an elegant blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine, both intense and generous, reflects the strength and resilience of the Bergamasque people, capturing the essence of a land that has always embraced both tradition and innovation.
Grape variety
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vineyards of origin
The ideal grapes for this wine are carefully selected from all the company’s vineyards at the Le Corne estate, located in the municipality of Grumello del Monte. These vineyards, perched on the hills above Grumello, benefit from excellent and constant ventilation, allowing for the perfect ripening of the bunches.
Soil: Of calcareous-clay nature, with fluvio-glacial sediments, this soil is ideal for viticulture. It ensures wines that are structured, fresh, and marked by a distinct minerality. The sun exposure on the hillsides promotes full ripening of the grapes, enhancing the characteristics of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Training system: Guyot.
Season in the field: Meticulous vineyard selection is followed by pre-destemming sorting and manual selection on the sorting table. The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit.
Average yield: Merlot 75 q/ha, Cabernet 50 q/ha.
Vinification
The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes undergo separate fermentation at controlled temperatures. After fermentation, the wines are cold-blended and aged for at least one year in a combination of wooden vats, tonneaux, and oak barrels.
Tasting notes
The wine displays a bright ruby red color, with an intense and ethereal bouquet, characterized by pronounced notes of black cherry, wild berries, and spices. On the palate, it is dry and well-balanced, showcasing excellent taste-olfactory persistence and a smooth, velvety texture.
Pairings
Pairs well with red meats, game (including feathered game), and medium-aged cheeses.
Alcohol content and serving temperature
Alcohol content: 14 % Vol.
Serving Temperature: 16 - 18°C.
Awards
BRONZE - Decanter World Wine Award 2020
GOLD - Mostra Nazionale dei Vini Pramaggiore 2019
