The Winemaker: Luca Lanari

Luca Lanari, the driving force behind Tenuta Lanari, grew up immersed in the rhythms of vineyard life. Inspired by his father’s passion and guided by the traditions of the Marche region, Luca has carried the estate to new heights while maintaining its artisanal roots.

Luca and Paola’s dedication to quality begins in the vineyard, where careful pruning and multiple harvests ensure only perfectly ripened grapes make the cut. This meticulous attention to detail continues in the cellar, where hand-selection at sorting tables and patient aging bring out the best in their wines.

Their shared philosophy revolves around preserving the natural character of the Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes while embracing modern techniques to elevate the wines to world-class standards.

Winemaking Philosophy and Practices

Artisanal Techniques

From pruning to bottling, the Lanaris maintain a hands-on approach. Grapes are harvested in multiple passes to capture optimal ripeness, followed by rigorous sorting to ensure only the finest fruit is vinified. Aging takes place in a mix of stainless steel and oak barrels, striking a balance between freshness and structure.

Sustainability and Tradition

At Tenuta Lanari, sustainability is woven into every step of production. The estate champions low-intervention practices, minimizing chemical use and maximizing the health of their vineyards through careful soil management.

Connection to the land: the vineyard’s terroir

The vineyards of Tenuta Lanari lie within the protected Monte Conero Natural Park, a region celebrated for its Mediterranean climate, sea breezes, and clay-rich soils that are ideal for Montepulciano grapes. The area’s hilly terrain and proximity to the Adriatic ensure a perfect balance of ripening heat and cooling influences, resulting in wines of great complexity and freshness.

Luca Lanari sees his role as a steward of this land, emphasizing the importance of working in harmony with nature to express the full potential of the region’s unique terroir.

Challenges and triumphs: overcoming adversity

Over the years, Tenuta Lanari has faced its share of challenges, from unpredictable weather to maintaining artisanal quality in a competitive market. Under Luca’s leadership, the winery has embraced innovation and resilience, earning a reputation for producing some of the finest Rosso Conero wines in the region.

Their commitment to excellence has brought them recognition among wine enthusiasts and critics alike, with consistently high ratings and glowing reviews.

Looking to the future: vision and goals

Luca and Paola Lanari are dedicated to preserving the traditions of the Marche region while exploring innovative techniques to refine their wines. Their vision includes expanding their reach to international markets, sharing the unique story of Rosso Conero with wine lovers worldwide.

“Our wines are a tribute to the land we call home. With every bottle, we aim to capture the essence of Monte Conero—its beauty, strength, and timeless spirit”.

— Luca Lanari

Marco’s personal notes

Since I began my journey as a sommelier, I’ve always had a soft spot for seeking out small producers—hidden gems unknown to most—tucked away in lesser-known regions where wine lives as part of everyday life, far removed from the spotlight and the hedonistic circuits often associated with big, famous brands.

So, partly because my family also has roots in that land, partly because it’s a paradise just a stone’s throw from home, and partly because it holds agro-food and enological excellences that remain largely undiscovered, I ventured into the Conero Natural Park to uncover some of the treasures of this territory.

That’s where I found Luca. Luca embodies his land—a land that has known poverty and still today struggles to receive the recognition it deserves. He is an example of determination, hard work, and dedication, of how experience, care, and skill can bring forth something that reflects both form and substance.

His wines tell the story of his pride and devotion. They carry his character—precise and significant, intense, complex, and full.

It’s a true pleasure to have discovered this gem of Conero and to share his story with Danish wine lovers.
